Save the Earth

Environmental Defense - Global warming is the most pressing environmental issue facing the Earth. While the world is moving forward against climate change, the U.S. continues to sit out the fight. A strong first step to change this inaction is the Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act, the first credible legislative proposal to cut heat-trapping emissions. Sign the Emissions Petition to tell the president and Congress the U.S. should lead -- not follow -- in the fight to undo global warming.

Friends of the Earth - Friends of the Earth has for decades been at the forefront of high-profile efforts to create a more healthy, just world. In March of 2005, Friends of the Earth finalized a merger with Bluewater Network. Bluewater is a dynamic organization with creative campaigns to combat global warming, air and water pollution and damage to public lands by thrill vehicles such as snowmobiles and jetskis. The merger has added to their capacity and to broaden the scope of their work in a number of areas.

Save our Environment - The Save Our Environment Action Center is a collaborative effort of the nation's most influential environmental advocacy organizations harnessing the power of the internet to increase public awareness and activism on today's most important environmental issues. Use the action center to make your voice heard in the crucial battles to protect our air and water; our lands, forests, and oceans; our wildlife; our children's future; and our planet's climate. You can join their activist network and to tell your friends and family about this action center and how easily they can be involved as well.

Sierra Club - After years of debate, a near consensus among the world's scientists has concluded that we are warming the planet, and unless we take steps now to curb global warming, our way of life, our planet, and our children are all in grave danger. But there is hope. Each us can make simple decisions that will reduce global warming pollution. The Sierra Club's network of activists and volunteers are dedicated to curbing global warming. We are working with churches, labor unions, mayors and state governments to bring about a cleaner, smarter energy future.

Stop Global Warming - There is no more important cause than the call to action to save our planet. This is a movement about change, as individuals, as a country, and as a global community. We are all contributors to global warming and we all need to be part of the solution. Join the thousands of supporters of the Stop Global Warming Virtual March, and become part of the movement to demand our leaders freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions now.

World Wildlife Fund - WWF is active around the world, saving wildlife, protecting habitats, and addressing global threats. But wildlife conservation and nature conservation begins with each of us - and each of us can make a difference. Whether you choose to get involved by making environmentally-conscious consumer decisions and green choices in your daily life; taking action for sound environmental policy through WWF's Conservation Action Network; traveling to unique habitats to see the extraordinary diversity of life on Earth; or making a financial contribution, by getting involved through WWF, you can ensure a living planet for future generations.

Protect Human Rights

Amnesty International USA - Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with over 1.8 million members worldwide. Amnesty International undertakes research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.

Human Rights Campaign - Soon, the U.S. Senate will consider the Matthew Shepard Act, a key bill that would protect gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people from hate violence. The U.S. House of Representatives has already passed the bill - and we need to pull out all the stops to make sure the Senate follows suit. Contact your senators and urge them to pass the Matthew Shepard Act.

Human Rights Watch - Human Rights Watch is the largest human rights organization based in the United States. Human Rights Watch researchers conduct fact-finding investigations into human rights abuses in all regions of the world and then publishes those findings in dozens of books and reports every year, generating extensive coverage in local and international media. This publicity helps to embarrass abusive governments in the eyes of their citizens and the world. Human Rights Watch then meets with government officials to urge changes in policy and practice -- at the United Nations, the European Union, in Washington and in capitals around the world. In extreme circumstances, Human Rights Watch presses for the withdrawal of military and economic support from governments that egregiously violate the rights of their people.

Protect Civil Rights

American Civil Liberties Union - The ACLU defends Americans' constitutional right to exercise religious beliefs or no religion at all, free from government promotion of faith-based doctrine or activities. The Action Network is made up of 200,000+ activists who are actively involved in defending our freedom. Each week, concerned individuals take action on a range of legislative issues and help shape policy that ensures our freedom and equality.

Color of Change - ColorOfChange.org exists to strengthen Black America's political voice. Our goal is to empower our members - Black Americans and our allies - to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone.

Electronic Frontier Foundation - From the Internet to the iPod, technologies are transforming our society and empowering us as speakers, citizens, creators, and consumers. When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. EFF broke new ground when it was founded in 1990 - well before the Internet was on most people's radar - and continues to confront cutting-edge issues defending free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights today. From the beginning, EFF has championed the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People - From the ballot box to the classroom, the dedicated workers, organizers, and leaders who forged this great organization and maintain its status as a champion of social justice, fought long and hard to ensure that the voices of African Americans would be heard. For nearly one hundred years, it has been the talent and tenacity of NAACP members that has saved lives and changed many negative aspects of American society.

National Organization for Women - The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.

Public Citizen - Public Citizen fights for openness and democratic accountability in government, for the right of consumers to seek redress in the courts; for clean, safe and sustainable energy sources; for social and economic justice in trade policies; for strong health, safety and environmental protections; and for safe, effective and affordable prescription drugs and health care.

Animal Protection Institute - API's primary campaign areas currently include animals used in entertainment, captive exotic animals, companion animals, compassionate consumerism, farmed animals, and wildlife protection.

Natural Resources Defense Council - NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.2 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.
