the Month
-------------------------
1. JustGive Update -- We are so excited to
have passed on over $450,000 to various nonprofit organizations
in the last 9 months. On behalf of all the charities, thank you
for your generosity.
But,
did you know that JustGive pays a 3% transaction fee for every donation
that is made through us? Just to give you an idea of how that adds
up, consider that 3% of $450,000 is $13,500!
That
is why we rely on JustGive donors to help us continue providing
this much-needed service -- a service that benefits the individual
as well as the nonprofits we serve. In order to continue passing
on 100% to nonprofits, we need your support. Would you consider
making a donation to JustGive.org and become a supporting member?
-Contributions to JustGive can
be made right on our website
-Also, whenever
you make a donation to an organization, you can add JustGive to
your Giving Basket. Please consider our transaction costs with each
donation you make.
Thank
you for being a loyal supporter of JustGive.org. All of your donations
allow us to provide a quality service and decreased fundraising
costs for the nonprofits you care about.

2. September Giving Calendar
-SEPTEMBER IS BACK TO SCHOOL MONTH! By
the time they are nine, students in low-income areas will be three
to four grade levels behind their nine-year-old peers in higher
income areas.
WHAT
YOU CAN DO FOR EDUCATION: Support Teach
for America, a national corps of outstanding and diverse recent
college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to
teach in urban and rural public schools.
-SEPTEMBER 4th IS TEACHER'S DAY! Among
the greatest challenges facing educators and concerned citizens
throughout the country is how to provide all children, especially
those from communities where resources are scarce, with opportunities
to learn and achieve in school.
WHAT
YOU CAN DO FOR TEACHERS: Support an organization such as Classroom,
Inc., a nonprofit that is dedicated to engaging students in
productive learning experiences that will help them in their transition
from school to the external world. They also provide teachers with
the support necessary to enhance their effectiveness in developing
and fostering these experiences.
-SEPTEMBER 9th IS GRANDPARENTS DAY! Statistics
show that 70% of incarcerated citizens are run-aways from foster
homes -- 90% of them placed against their wish.
HOW
YOU CAN HELP GRANDPARENTS: Make a financial contribution to
the Grandparents
Resource Center. For the well being of children at risk, they
provide empowerment, advocacy, and support services to grandparents
raising grandchildren, and those seeking custody and visitation
rights of their grandchildren.
-SEPTEMBER 14th IS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE.
It is observed each year on the opening day of the regular session
of the United Nations General Assembly. The U.N. marks this day
with a special ceremony near the Peace Bell, which is rung at 10:00
a.m. local time and calls upon the people throughout the world to
reflect for a moment on the universal goal of peace. There is still
much to be done to promote Peace. Consider that nuclear bombs are
now 20 to 25 times more powerful than the atomic bomb that wiped
out Nagasaki. Consider that there are currently over 36,000 nuclear
warheads still in existence. Consider that 110 million landmines
remain in the ground of 68 countries.
WHAT
YOU CAN DO TO PROMOTE PEACE: Donate to the International
Campaign to Ban Landmines: Co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize
in 1997, they bring together more than 1300 human rights, humanitarian,
children's, peace, disability, veterans, medical, arms control,
religious, environmental and women's groups working to internationally
ban antipersonnel mines.

3. Still time to donate your Tax Refund check
Just 10% of your tax rebate check can make a difference in someone's
life. Now that your tax refund check is on its way, we have a great
idea about how you can spend it!
Donate
a portion of it to your favorite charity. If 10 people donated just
10% of their rebate, that's $300 -- so encourage
everyone you know to do the same! Find a charity you care about
using our JustGive Guide
of 19 categories.

5. Inspiring Stories -- "May we all continue to share
our kindness, allowing us to enrich the lives of the less fortunate
and never give up on bringing them to their full potential." ~Camille
Geraldi
In most
ways, Camille Geraldi is not unlike most mothers -- she loves her
children unconditionally, puts their needs before her own, and derives
great joy from watching them grow. In one way, however, she is quite
different; as founder of the Possible Dream Foundation, she is mother
to 46 children with Down's Syndrome or other severe mental and physical
handicaps. Since she was five years old, Geraldi has dedicated her
life to seeking out and adopting these special children, who would
otherwise end up alone in institutions without the love and dignity
they deserve.
She and
her husband have turned their home into a place where abandoned
children with severe mental and physical problems can be part of
a real family. The three houses they own on their block in a small
suburb are not care facilities, but homes. The Possible Dream Foundation
is a nonprofit organization receiving very little government or
private assistance, relying almost entirely on the Geraldis' own
finances.
Support
the Possible
Dream Foundation by making a contribution through JustGive.
