Give a Necktie, a Fruitcake … or the Cure for a Disease?
New JustGive Gift Certificate Makes Charitable Giving the Perfect
Present
JustGive Allows Recipients to Target Their Gift
to More than a Million National, Regional and Local Charities and Schools
San Francisco, Calif. - September 28,
2004 - JustGive (www.justgive.org),
a national nonprofit organization that uses technology to increase
overall giving by connecting people with the charities and causes
they care about most, today announced a first-of-its -kind charity
gift certificate program. Just in time for early holiday gift planning,
the new program enables consumers to “give” charitable
donation gift certificates that allow recipients to target their
gift among hundreds of thousands of national, regional or local
charities.
“With the gift certificates, JustGive is furthering its mission
to make it easier to connect people with their favorite charities.
Both the gift-givers and receivers can be involved in supporting
a charitable organization,” said Kendall Webb, executive director
and founder of JustGive. “JustGive offers a unique alternative
to general ‘charitable’ gifting by allowing recipients
to personalize the donation by selecting their favorite charity.”
JustGive gift certificates, which can be purchased directly at
www.JustGive.org, can be purchased
for any amount. All gift certificates purchased through the Website
qualify for a tax deduction. The process of giving is very easy
and involves only a few clicks. The recipient is notified immediately
of the gift certificate via email. There is a service fee of $5
per transaction, and additional gift certificates in the same transaction
are just $2 apiece.
After receiving an email notification, recipients of the JustGive
gift certificate can choose their favorite charity from JustGive’s
database of more than one million nonprofit organizations, including
local, regional and national organizations and schools. Because
the gift certificate has no expiration date, it can be used at any
time.
The Young Presidents’ Organization, an exclusive peer organization
of more than 8,000 young global leaders across 75 nations, recently
participated in a pilot test of the gift certificates with JustGive.
The Barbary Coast chapter used the certificates for the monthly
gift they award to the individuals who organize and speak at their
meetings. The chapter is replacing their traditional engraved Tiffany
bowl with the JustGive gift certificate.
“JustGive has provided our chapter with the best way to give
a meaningful, personalized gift to the people that give so much
of themselves to our organization,” said Bill Price, member
of the Young Presidents’ Organization and a founding partner
of the Texas Pacific Group. “JustGive makes the process of
giving simple, and because recipients can choose from over a million
local, regional and national organizations, it becomes a much more
personal and meaningful offering than the other gifts we’ve
awarded at our monthly meetings. ”
“A Tiffany bowl is a nice gift, make no mistake, but it doesn’t
allow the recipient to participate fully in the gifting process,”
said John Donahoe, president of Bain and Company and a member of
the YPO. “I was a strong advocate of changing our monthly
gift to the JustGive gift certificate. One of the YPO’s core
values, handed down by our founder, is that it is ‘first,
last and always a uniquely personal experience.’ There is
no better way for us to further this personal experience than to
allow our honored members to support the charities that are most
important to them.”
