in Indonesia kill up to 28
JAKARTA
(Reuters) - Up to 28 people have been killed in landslides
triggered by heavy rain in Indonesia's Central Java province,
the official Antara news agency said on Tuesday. The landslides
struck the districts of Cilacap and Banyumas early on Monday morning
while residents of various villages located in valleys were sleeping.

says Afghans could face starvation
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A U.N. agency
said on Friday hundreds of thousands of Afghans could face starvation
unless it receives some $54 million in food to feed the population
through the winter. "If WFP does not receive fresh pledges soon,
it will run out of food by February of next year," said Gerard
van Dijk, the country director for the World Food Program. "If

Clinton
should visit Agent Orange victims-veteran
HANOI,
(Reuters) - A U.S. veteran exposed to toxic defoliants during
the Vietnam War said President Bill Clinton should meet children
with birth defects blamed on the chemicals when he visits the
communist country next month. Tom Joyce, who served with the 101st
Airborne Division in Vietnam in the mid-1960s, told Reuters that
his exposure to Agent Orange had caused the nervous disorder peripheral
neuropathy, while his son had spina bifida. He said he wanted
to see U.S. help for Vietnamese victims. (more)
