arts curriculum.

Signs of Hope
Many
dedicated teachers and artists are working to bring arts to
children and adults around the country.

AT-RISK STUDENTS: Research
has shown that at-risk students who are actively engaged
in after-school learning and arts productions develop self-esteem
and confidence, assume leadership roles, and improve overall
school performance.

HIGHER SATs: Students
who studied the arts scored 83 points higher on the SAT
than students who did not.

GENERATION ARTS: Younger adults
are also showing an increased interest in the performing
and visual arts. There was a 4% increase in the number of
young adults attending art events during the 1990s. Opera,
in particular, was a favorite.
