Amc Cancer Research Center
Denver, CO 80214
Tax ID: 84-0402535
For nearly a century, the organization now known as AMC Cancer Research Center has dedicated itself to the relief of human suffering.
In 1901, Dr. Charles Spivak opened a free tuberculosis sanitarium - the Jewish Consumptives Relief Society (JCRS). When tuberculosis was brought under control in the 1950''s, the JCRS evolved into AMC Cancer Research Center and entered into a new battle - the eradication of cancer, a devastating disease about which little was known.
In 1989, the Center reaffirmed the innovative spirit of Dr. Spivak: they dedicated the institution s total scientific resources to research into the prevention of cancer, making AMC among the first in the U.S. with such a specific mission.
AMC Cancer Research Center is now a national not-for-profit research institution. Its scientists work in the laboratory, clinics, communities, and healthcare settings, impacting research across the country. AMC is widely recognized in the field of cancer prevention and control research. The St. Louis office, opened in 1986, has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research. Through the fundraising efforts in St. Louis, AMC has purchased R2 Digital Imaging machines to assist in mammography screenings. Those are located at St. Luke''s Hospital and SSM St. Mary''s Hospital. Fundraising dollars have also provided free mammograms and follow up visits for indigent care patients. The agencies Day of Caring provides hundreds of people with life saving information on cancer prevention and control.

With continued research for effective therapies and, ultimately, a cure, many more children and adults will win their battles with brain tumors. Over 190,000 individuals are diagnosed with a brain tumor each year in the United States, including 3,000 children. Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer death due to solid tumors in children under the age of 20. Brain tumors do not discriminate - anyone can be affected. People of all ages, races, gender, socio-economic status, urban or rural dweller, students, white or blue collar workers, athletes, CEO''s, celebrities - anyone can be diagnosed with a brain tumor. A brain tumor is uniquely terrifying to the patient and family because it strikes at the very essence of an individual - emotions, intellect, and personality - in addition to the many physical problems it causes.
