Thanks to the melodic tune "The 3 R's" by Jack Johnson, a reinterpretation of the classic Schoolhouse Rock's "Three is a magic number", our children learn the importance of the three R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The "green" movement can be overwhelming but JustGive encourages you to take the first steps to bringing the three R's into your life.

• Reduce. There's more to reducing than turning off the lights when you leave a room. Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescents which use a fraction of the electricity of incandescent light bulbs. There are so many options available so do your research.
• Reuse. You see them everywhere, the reusable grocery bags. Some are green, some are paper bag brown, but they all have one purpose - to be reused when you shop. Whole Foods doesn't care if you bring in your Safeway bag, they'll still fill it with your groceries and give you a bag credit.
• Recycle. Recycling doesn't just mean putting the cereal box in the blue bin, it means taking your old computer to a local recycling center so it doesn't end up in a landfill.

It is nourishing these three elements that keeps the body healthy and in balance. Changing your diet and lifestyle is no easy task but JustGive encourages you to use the power of your mind and the strength of your spirit to make a few of these changes.

• Reduce. Controlling your portion size to reduce your calorie intake is the first step to managing your weight. Natural foods, like whole wheat and fresh fruits and vegetables, are a healthier choice because they slow down the digestive process, thereby allowing better absorption of the nutrients.
• Renew Renew your gym membership. Daily exercise is good for mind, body and soul. Taking even a half hour of your day to walk or run will result in more energy and better weight management. This time away from work and family is time to reflect internally on your personal goals and accomplishments.
• Relax. Stress may be unavoidable, but learning to manage stress may reduce your risk of certain health issues. Identify one stressful part of your life, close your eyes, take a deep breath and slowly exhale. Repeat as necessary.

Our Children's Education

Schoolhouse Rock was a video series in the 70's that brought educational elements into Saturday morning cartoons. Children are constantly being distracted by new and exciting technology that has little if any educational value. Take control of a child's education by getting involved in their life, their school and their friends.

• Read. Literacy is the key to success. Storytelling is another way to enhance comprehension and creativity.
• Reflect. Children learn through imitation. Being the best role model possible shows children what you value as important and how to achieve that.
• Respond. Communicating with children encourages them to come to you with questions or concerns before less reliable resources like the internet. If you don't know the answers, research and learn together.
