Sharing Holiday Hope: The Gift of Charity That Grows
JustGive gives back to donors so charity can do more...
San Francisco, California—November 24, 2008—JustGive is making 300 charitable donations of its own, giving individual donors an extra $10 so their charity can mean more—and do more. Beginning December 1, the first 300 people who donate $200 or more (giving total) through JustGive.org will receive a $10 charity gift back.
"Times are tough, and we know charities are being asked to do more," explains Founder Kendall Webb. "Our gift is one more way we can help the growing number of people who depend on the generosity of others for what they need. By giving five percent back to these donors, we put charity to work for greater good—to reach more people who might otherwise not receive help."
Through its recently redesigned website, JustGive makes it easier for donors to give, to connect with the charities of choice, and to personally support causes they care about. Conveniently and safely, donors can give a meaningful holiday gift of charity to friends, family members and colleagues by:
- Donating to their favorite cause—No need to know the names of charities. Searchable online access makes it simple to find them, using the JustGive Guide, an Advanced Search of the nearly 1.5 million charities working throughout the world or the current Top 10 Causes as identified by giving trends.
- Purchasing a GiveNow Charity Gift Card (new!)—Customize the card, accompany it with any message, and let the recipient use it to make a donation to any charity of their choice. Donors can select from several e-card designs (Hanukkah included) or opt for a traditional gift card that can be mailed to the recipient.
- Selecting a Gift Collection with a "basket" of four charities supporting a specific cause.
- Creating a Gift Registry to request that others make gifts to charity in lieu of traditionally purchased gifts or frivolous items.
JustGive makes online charitable giving affordable and private, accepting donations as small as $10 and allowing donors to make anonymous gifts. They manage all the details, send money directly to charities, inform recipients of the gift they've received (if donors so choose) and even track each donor's gifts through a password-protected Giving History. At year-end, this Giving History provides a convenient summary of donations for tax purposes.
How much difference can a gift make this holiday? Every little bit helps!
- For $15, 60 school children can receive one hot meal from the World Food Program.
- For a $25 gift to First Book, you put 10 books in the hands of first-time readers, introducing children to the joy of reading.
- For $75, Action Against Hunger supplies a family of four with grains and other food staples for two weeks.
In addition to JustGive's charitable gift to donors this holiday, the nonprofit is participating in a nationwide Redefine Christmas campaign, encouraging consumers to rethink gift giving. A charitable idea, shared by many, Redefine Christmas suggests practicing compassion instead of compulsion—giving in to the spirit of the season with meaningful gifts of charity. "Now, more than ever, we hope friends and family recognize the value of charity and all it can do," emphasizes Webb.
A San Francisco-based nonprofit, JustGive's mission is to increase giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about. Founded by Harvard graduate Kendall Webb, this nonprofit was one of the first to harness technology for online giving nearly 10 years ago. Since then, JustGive has refined giving technology and streamlined its operating process to ensure that the highest possible amount of every dollar donated goes directly to those who need it. The destination for online charitable giving™, JustGive.org has been recognized by Forbes as one of the Best of the Web.
